Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour Proclaims April 11, 2011 as Healthy Schools Week and Healthy Schools Day

In honor of National Healthy Schools Day, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour proclaimed the week of April 11, 2011 as Healthy Schools Week and April 11, 2011 as Healthy Schools Day in the state of Mississippi. 

This is Governor Barbour's second consecutive year to honor National Healthy Schools Day, which is sponsored by Healthy Schools Network, the US EPA and over 2 dozen major health and school organizations.  The proclamation was sponsored by Healthy Schools Network volunteer and speaker Nancy Swan and co-sponsored by Mississippi resident and businesswoman, Mrs. Shelia Pace.   National Healthy Schools Day is also supported by Children's Environmental Protection Alliance adm. Nancy Swan

 

PROCLAMATION

 WHEREAS, materials used in building construction and conditions resulting from property damage, or even poor maintenance and upkeep, can result in indoor air pollution that could jeopardize a person's health; and

 WHEREAS, many of the sources of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) problems (i.e. formaldehyde, mold, radon, etc.) can be easily prevented and corrected by simple measures, and

 WHEREAS, Mississippi is dedicated to enhancing and preserving the safety, health, and well-being of our children, especially in the school environment; by protecting Indoor Air Quality; and

 WHEREAS, our schools are the building blocks of our communities and the keystone of our future; and

 NOW THEREFORE, I Haley Barbour, as Governor of the great Sate of Mississippi, do hereby proclaim the April 11, 2011 as

 Healthy Schools Day

 

And April 11, 2011 through April 17, 2011 as

 

Healthy Schools Week

 

in the state of Mississippi, and call community awareness to improving the environmental quality of our schools and protection our school children and personnel from toxic injury.
